Preparation for Installing or Refinishing Hardwood Floors
When you decide to install new hardwood flooring, or refinish your floors, there are several steps that need to be taken before initiating your new flooring project. John Griffiths Hardwood Flooring provides a detailed preparation checklist for the installation and/or refinishing of hardwood floors.
- Arrangements may need to be made for you and your pets to stay out of your home while your flooring project is being done
- Remove all furniture, appliances, wall décor, curtains, items on shelving/bookcases and closets before work begins
- Make sure there is a clear path to your breaker box, we will need to plug in our machines to hook up to
- Installation can take 2 -5 days (depending on total square footage)
- Wait 24 hours before walking on these areas; 48 hours for replacing furniture
- We recommend you use a pad or cushion to put under your furniture legs; this should help with scratching the floor
- Sand and Finishing of newly installed floor or Refinishing of Existing flooring can take 4-5 days
- Wait 24-48 hours before walking on these areas; 48 hours for replacing furniture
- Wait about 2 weeks before putting down area rugs
- We recommend you use a pad or cushion to put under your furniture legs; this should help prevent scratches on the floor
Maintenance and Care for your floors
- Sweep your floor daily
- If you vacuum use the bare floor setting
- Use your recommended floor cleaner once a month and for spot cleaning
- We recommend Bona Floor cleaner; you can also use a very dry mop of vinegar and water mixture
- A maintenance coat may need to be applied every 3 – 5 years
